The bark of the kousa dogwood is so attractive. Dogwood trees are widely known for their delicate beauty and the kousa variety adds a toughness that makes this species an excellent choice for home landscapes and urban areas. Pink kousa dogwood has a shrub like form and is a great idea for along property edges and landscape borders. The tree also makes a visual contribution year round.

Depending on the age of the kousa dogwood the trees take on a different appearance. Young trees grow in an upright fashion and in somewhat of a conical shape. Kousa dogwood is an excellent small specimen tree. Add a circle of organic mulch about 3 feet wide around the base of the tree to help retain moisture to the roots.

Other common names include chinese dogwood korean dogwood and japanese dogwood. In the midwest this is a hardier substitute for the acid loving flowering dogwood.
